I’ll keep this short. If you like running. READ THIS BOOK.
Kenya has been one of the dominant forces in long distance running for decades.
Adharanand Finn decided to find out. Rather than do what most normal people would do, research the interweb, he relocated his wife and 3 kids to Kenya for 6 months to train with them. WHAT A LEDGE!!
This in itself got me emotional. What a huge life decision to make, a real gamble and to turn up to train with some of the World’s finest athletes is beyond brave.
OK, I’m going to go there. If you watched the sub 2-hour marathon today and thought, wow, who is that guy, why are Kenyans so amazing at running, and such thoughts, I wrote a book about it all. It’s called Running with the Kenyans. Ask your bookshop or go online.

For those of you considering a new running class or club and are nervous about how you’ll get on, or not knowing anyone, just think how Finn must have felt when he arrived for his first run in Iten. Bricking it no doubt.
Finn got to meet some of the top athletes of their generation and some of the World’s best endurance coaches. He got an insight into how they dedicate their lives to the sport to achive their goals.
As for the secret to the success of the Kenyans? Well there isn’t one.
It boils down to a huge number of factors which are outlined in this book. Please give it a read. If you can take courage from the challenge and experience Finn took on, then it can only help you improve your running.
